Data Recovery

“Shortly after my husband died my computer was shut down completely by a virus. Both Gateway and Symantec stated that I would lose all data in the restoration process. Among other items, eVestigations was able to recover irreplaceable photos, emails and my husband’s journal.”

Every hard disk drive will eventually fail; it’s only a matter of time.

eVestigations Inc. can help you recover accidentally deleted data, data from hard drives that have failed, and RAID systems in failure mode. Whether it is a relatively simple forensic procedure or an extensive clean-room repair, eVestigations Inc. will provide your best chance for a full recovery of your critical data.

Our forensic laboratory is an electrostatic dissipative environment with ESD flooring and work surfaces as well as bonded instrumentation.

When will it fail?

Today’s disk drives are extremely reliable. One thing is certain however, every disk drive will eventually fail. The industry uses several measurements to predict the average life expectancy of a disk drive.

The MTTF, (mean time to failure) is the average number of hours as determined by the manufacturer that a disk drive is expected to run before it fails. The MTTF for many retail disk drives is in the 600,000 to
1,500,000 hour range. The MTTF rate is often determined by the manufacturer return rate which tends to skew the metric higher.

Another metric is the FFOP (failure free operating period). The FFOP represents a calculation based on when component parts are expected to wear out. FFOP for a 3.25” drive, typically found in laptops, are on the order of 3.4 years at a constant temperature and a 50000 stop/start cycle limit.
